SYSU held 2020 GuangShen Workshop
on Coding and Information Theory

From June 20 to 21, 2020, the GuangShen Workshop on Coding and Information Theory was successfully held through the online conference. This workshop was organized by School of Data and Computer Science, Sun Yat-sen University, and co-sponsored by Information Theory Chapter of Chinese Institute of Electronics and IEEE Information Theory Society Guangzhou Chapter. More than 190 experts and scholars shared this academic feast on the "cloud".

The workshop was chaired by Prof. Xiao Ma of Sun Yat-sen University. Prof. Baoming Bai, C&E chairman of Information Theory Chapter of Chinese Institute of Electronics, delivered a speech and introduce the arrangement of the annual academic conference of Information Theory Chapter.

Prof. Pingyi Fan from Tsinghua University, Prof. Xuan Guang from Nankai University, Prof. Bin Dai from Southwest Jiaotong University, Dr. Huazi Zhang from Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Prof. Liuguo Yin from Tsinghua University, Dr. Shanxiang Lv from Jinan University and Prof. Yong Fang from Chang’an University shared their latest research results from classical communication to quantum communication, from theoretical research to engineering application, and from source coding to channel coding. The wonderful speeches made by the experts were well received by the participants, who expressed the depth and breadth of the forum.

Finally, Prof. Ma Xiao shared "Claude Shannon's Creative Thinking" by Prof. Robert G. Gallager of MIT, hoping to inspire young experts and scholars to conduct solid research, cultivate creative thinking and promote the development of relevant research. He called for more online forums to be held in the future to facilitate the participation of more experts and scholars, especially students, in order to enliven the academic research atmosphere and promote the growth of young talents.

With the "cloud" as the sail, pursue the dream forward. This workshop focused on the frontier research of coding and information theory, and provided a communication platform for experts and scholars.
